Yesterday’s surprise announcement of ‘Pro’, noise-cancelling AirPods from Apple hit me twice. Once, one in the excitement and acquisition centres of my technology-addled brain and again, later, in the wallet.
Let’s cut to the chase. I bought a pair immediately, and they’re arriving tomorrow. I’ll be honest – £245 is the most I’ve ever spent on earphones, but for something I use several times a day, every day of the year, the cost-per-use isn’t too bad at all.
I use earphones to make calls, to run webinars, to listen to podcasts when commuting, to listen to music when running and to watch movies on my iPad when I’m traveling. It’s not often I can be found without something hanging out of my ear, actually!
I gifted my very first pair of AirPods to my mum when I upgraded to the PowerBeats Pro pods. The latter are going on eBay to part-fund this latest upgrade and I’m super-excited to try them out.
The Beats pods have been annoying me lately, none more so than when I ran the Royal Parks Half – this was the longest I’d had them in my ears and they were a bit of a chore. I longed for my old AirPods!
These new AirPods Pro are smaller than the originals – and certainly smaller than the Beats pods and their case! – as well as noise-cancelling, which is a must for this frequent traveller.
I’m trying not to wish today away, but I’m really looking forward to pairing them with my phone and then getting lost in a podcast.
I will, of course, revert with a review just as soon as I’ve had a chance to take them for a test drive.
