Yes, I went out for a run this morning. But no, it wasn’t enjoyable. In fact, it was annoying from the get go.

First of all, and I’ve no idea why, Strava wouldn’t work on my Apple Watch. Every time I started the app, it just shut off. Several attempts later, including a restart of the watch, I gave up and just used my phone.

Then, within just a few metres, I was paralysed with cramps in my calves. This despite a decent amount of pre-run stretching. My run came to a screeching halt and I had to start my stretches all over again.

Five minutes later, I restarted the run, awkwardly and gingerly.

This slowed me down a lot, but I kept going. I had intended to do 6km, but at the 2.5km mark (I know the very lamp post!) I decided to turn back and make it an even 5km.

Yes, it’s better than no run at all, but I’m planning to do 10km tomorrow morning and would prefer to avoid a battle with cramp all over again.  And an all advice most welcome – I’m not normally someone who experiences cramps while running, so I’m a little bemused.

Some runs are amazing and leave me feeling positive for hours. Some are like a punishment and it’s just about moving on. This was one of the latter, but I’m sure there are better runs ahead.

    Oh no – well here’s hoping that was cramps over and done with for now; get the out of the way for tomorrow, and good luck for the 10k! 🏃🏻‍♂️

    • Thank you. Unfortunately, I was hit by the “beer truck” last night, so the running has been postponed until tomorrow 🤢
