Sleep-deprived and ratty

I’m in Dublin for work right now, having flown in yesterday morning. I fly home this evening, but in between is going to be a very, very long day.

I think I’m staying in the noisiest hotel in all of Dublin. From the moment I unpacked in my room last night, I was aware of the noises in the corridor as people passed by. I put it down to being a busy time of day.

After working for a while, I went to the gym (yay me) in the basement. I managed a brief workout on the cross-trainer and some time on various resistance machines. Much better than no workout at all.

After my workout, I could only think of food. So after a shower, I sorted some room service and settled in for the evening.

And that’s when it become really obvious.

My room seems to be located at an intersection in the hotel that nearly everyone has to pass. My room is on the ground floor and also near a set of lifts. The hotel ‘disaster zone’ when it comes to noise.

I can’t believe I didn’t notice all this when getting to my room earlier in the afternoon. But I was a little distracted with some work-related thoughts and plans.

Between the voices in the hall and the slamming doors, there was some periodic slamming and banging from the rooms above.

Let’s add to that a generous sprinkling of people stopping to have loud, drunk conversations outside my room late at night and the seemingly constant ringing phone int he distance.

It was too late to change rooms – I was in bed by this point – so I thought I’d just work on getting to sleep and hopefully snooze through it all.

Not. A. Chance.

I was pretty much woken on the hour, every hour, between 10pm and 4am. That does not make for a good night’s sleep. I’m feeling quite murderous, if I’m honest.

I’m now prepping for an all day workshop and I know that adrenaline and enthusiasm will get me through it. But I predict a crash some time in the early evening and a sleep on the flight back to London.

The only positive from this sorry mess? Tomorrow morning’s 0730am appointment has been rescheduled, so I won’t be getting up at 5am.

Still. Ugh. You know?
