So long, Tokyo

I'm sitting on a Finnair A350, somewhere over Russia, on my way home from Tokyo. I'll get back to London after a transfer in Helsinki and then a brief stop off in Edinburgh to drop off my travelling companion: my 10 year old nephew, Andrew.

I've done zero blogging while away, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we packed a LOT into each day in Tokyo and I didn't have a lot of energy left at the end of the evening. Secondly, supervising a 10 year old doesn't leave much time for writing, even if I had the energy.

So I'll catch up on all my writing over the coming weeks, including:

  • Our shared onsen adventures
  • My first use of a Suica card on the metro
  • An "unexpected" roller-coaster in Odaiba
  • Lunch at the Kawaii Monster Cafe in Harajuku
  • My first stay at a Japanese capsule hotel
  • Thoughts on 'doing' Tokyo with a 10 year old

It definitely wasn't my first visit to Tokyo, and it won't be my last, but it was a very new experience bringing a child around with me and explaining explicitly all the differences in people, life and customs.

So, apologies once again for the absence of updates. I'll make good just as soon as I'm unpacked and over the inevitable jet lag.

    1. It was great fun – the word ‘Kawaii’ is the key element. Still on board the Finnair flight to Helsinki – wifi makes it all much nicer.

  3. […] I'm going to refocus my writing here on my travel adventures (and, as noted in my last post, I have quite the backlog to address) and move older content about my personal life and hobbies […]
