A perfect burger

We walked down through the Isle of Dogs this lunchtime, through the Greenwich foot tunnel and straight into Byron for the most superb burger I’ve had in a while.

A perfectly cook beef patty, cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce, mayonnaise, jalapenos and a battered onion ring. Perfection in a bun. The most amazing combination of flavours and textures.

would say I’m a little ashamed of just how quickly I shoved the thing down my throat, but I’m not really ashamed at all. It was delicious.

And I enjoyed both mouthfuls 😉

And what a venue – the outdoor deck at Byron looks over the river just as it bends. We had great views of HMS Bulwark which was moored nearby and watched the various Thames Clippers commuter boats zoom by.

I’m so very glad I took a half-day today. If you run your own business and can’t go out to play in the sunshine from time to time, then what’s the point?!

I took a quite a few pics on our walkabout and, rahter than go through the general faff of setting up a gallery in WordPress, here’s a link to the album over on Google+.

  1. Looks great – it *amazes* me to see how this part of London has changed from how I remember it from 1988. Byron looks yummy too; will definitely add that part of London to the list for the next trip!

  2. Could I trouble you for any recommendations for restaurants / bistros around East End? A friend in Bow is putting us up for a night in August and we want to treat him! Thanks!

    1. You know, Canary Wharf is just a short journey from Bow on the DLR and there are a ton of places here where you can have a nice meal:

      – Le Secret des Rôtisseurs – great French place, specialises in rotisserie chicken
      – Boisdale – superb steaks and cocktails
      – 28West – great burgers, facing the river
      – The Big Easy – ribs, pork and steaks

Let me know if you have time for a coffee while you’re here 🙂

      1. Thanks for sending those on! Would be nice to meet up for a coffee, however our plans might be changing now, as our friends are now looking to see if they can organise their wedding for the day we get there!

They can’t confirm it yet, but they’re hoping to get away with a quick in / sign the papers / and a quick out. Both guys have large families, but in Belfast & Venezuela respectively, so a huge family affair is probably off the cards. Still, I’ve met John’s family, and there’ll be murder if they find out he’s getting married without them, so those plans may very well change, so I’m not holding my breath!

So – if we’re free, I’ll give you a nod and we might grab a coffee.
