Eurovision 2016: Austria

After recent (amazing) Eurovision success with the fabulous Conchita Wurst, Austria have once again gone for an interesting choice – a song sung in French. “Loin d’ici”, performed by Zoe.

Whether Zoe will actually sing in French on the night is anther matter. These winners usually get some form of makeover between national selection and the Eurovision performance itself. It’s not a bad song at all, definitely easier to listen to than the Albanian entry and reasonably memorable.

I think it’s stands a good chance of getting out of its semi-final, but until we know all the songs it’s up against the night, it’s hard to be sure. Many of the national entries that Zoe will come up against in the first semi-final have yet to be chosen.

As the performance stakes continue to rise – with entries trying more and more outlandish gimmicks to ensure they’re memorable – Zoe’s treadmill walking in front of animated flowers isn’t too over-the-top. And it doesn’t detract from her performance or distract from the song itself.

All in all, I like it and hope she makes it into the final. Some nice, light Eurovision pop.
