Folding bike lust

I test-drove one of these bad boys earlier this afternoon and I have to say: it was lust at first sight.

CImage.ashxI’ve been toying with the idea of getting another bike for a long while, only slightly put off by my previous two bike thefts. But they took place my old apartment building, where neighbours didn’t give two flying fucks about closing doors. In this building, we have both secure underground parking and a separate bike room.

More recently, I’ve been lusting after a Brompton  These bikes are also foldable, making them easy to take into buildings and on the tube/train. They fold down into an incredibly small footprint, so very practical for London. And they’re incredibly well made.

The one I took out earlier weighed just 10kg and handled like a dream. Just 3 gears, but I was whizzing around the streets around Spitalfields Market like I’d used one all my life.

And this is why they make it so easy to try a Brompton out. Once you’ve been on one, you’ll never go back to anything else.

My finger is dangerously close to clicking the ‘buy’ button.

And in case you think they’re just sedate little run-arounds…
