S.H.I.E.L.D. is real!

Geek-tastic news!

Marvel have released the first cast photo of their upcoming “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” TV series. And as all the rumours have predicted, Agent Coulson is back!

Despite (spoiler alert!!) apparently dying at the hands of Loki in the Angers movie, he’s here leading a team of S.H.I.E.L.D agents.

Courtesy of Newsarama, here’s what it’s all about:

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.

Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

I sincerely hope we find out how the hell Coulson is alive after the beating Loki gave him in the movie. And obviously, the comics nerd in me is hoping for tons of comics references and the odd cameo from Avengers.

Obvious next question: when will we get to see it in the UK?!

  1. Either way, fans haven’t seen the last of Phil Coulson. At least one more Whedon-spun story exists to be told about the enigmatic agent, but beyond that, who knows? The working relationship between Whedon and Gregg is just beginning (next demonstrated in Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing), so only time will tell.
