The end of the world is nigh…

…it must be. Because Apple just apologised for the quality of their new Maps application.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook just posted an open letter on their website, apologising for the mess and indicating that improvements are on the way.

Who’d a thunk it?

At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.

You can read the rest here. He even recommends some alternative mapping solutions while they clear up the mess.

And now that I’ve used iOS6 on my iPhone 5 for a week, I can attest to the mess. I tried to use it to find a couple of client offices while I was in Dublin. Shambles. Utter shambles.

A shortcut to Google maps is now firmly fixed to my home screen.
