The iPhone liberated at last!

The iPhone has finally been set free from the clammy embrace of O2. As of some time later this year (yet to be specified), the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS will be available to customers through Orange.

And I for one cannot wait.

I love the iPhone, but O2’s network sucks. I live in Central London and yet often find it difficult to get a decent 3G signal. Dropped calls are a continual annoyance. My contract ends in January, so I’ve got plenty of time to see how the move to Orange works out for others. I left Orange for T-Mobile (I’m a mobile slut) because they didn’t have an all-you-can-eat data plan. They’re going to *have* to introduce a no-limits data plan for all these new iPhone contracts. And if the Orange/T-Mobile merger goes ahead they’ll have a pretty good network to accommodate all the new 3G demand.

Dare I say it, anybody could do a better job than O2.

Added bonus: I’ll be a new customer to Orange (again) and will be able to take advantage of whatever handset deals they have. Perhaps I will get the new iPhone 3GS in the new year after all…

If you’re based in the UK and like the thought of a new iPhone on Orange, you can register your interest here and Orange will get in touch with more information when it’s available.
