After expressing an interest in the new MiFi service from 3 last month, I was pleasantly surprised to see more details emerge today, especially on the pricing side of things. New fave tech blog Electric Pig has the details:
For £69.99 you can pen your name on a one month deal dubbed “Broadband 5GB 1 month” offering up the 3MiFi router, 5GB of data. you’ll need to stump up £15 a month to keep things ticking over.
Alternatively, the “Ready to Go” deal packs 3GB of data for three months and can be topped up PAYG style. All that for £99.99.
Really, this isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. £15 for 5GB of data a month isn’t too shabby. Plus, accessing the net via wifi drains my Macbook Pro’s battery a whole lot less than the vile USB dongle from T-Mobile that I use. I may just have to invest in one of these (for business purposes of course, you understand…)
I actually saw one of these for sale at Telefonica’s Madrid flagship store last week. The MiFi itself was housed in a much sleeker case than the 3 one outlined in Electric Pig’s article. And seeing as Telefonica has it, perhaps their UK operation (known to you and me as O2) will get it soon? As an existing customer, I might even get a better deal.
But I won’t hold my breath…
