Just because the McCain/Palin ticket failed to win the US election, it doesn’t mean Palin’s brand of horrible right-wing ideology has gone away. She’s still running Alaska, remember.
The Progressive Puppy highlights Palin’s latest ‘great idea’ – nominating a bigot as Alaska’s Attorney General. The post starts with a prime quote from the nominee, Wayne Anthony Ross:
“If a guy can’t rape his wife, who’s he gonna rape?”
I just don’t know how to respond to that. Puppy goes on to list the many and varied revolting things Ross has done in the past, including:
This is a man who promised God that before he dies he’ll overturn Roe vs. Wade. This is a man who suggestedthat an African American student who complained about a KKK “art project” should be arrested. This is a man who referred to LGBT Americans as “degenerates.” This is a man who in a newspaper editorial told Alaskans to “quit crying over an oil spill.” This is a man who shrilly opposed subsistence rights for Native Americans.
Sounds like a great guy, doesn’t he? My first question would have to be: how could a woman (even Palin!) recommend a man who advocates domestic rape? Is she so blinded by her ideology that she can’t see the suffering of domestic abuse victims and how this could only be exacerbated by the appointment of a headcase like Ross?
To paraphrase one of my least-favourite characters from Northern Ireland: She hasn’t gone away, you know. Obama is in the White House (thanks be to jeebus), but Palin and her ilk still have day jobs and can (and will) cause as much damage to rights as possible while they remain in those jobs.
We need to shine a spotlight on these actions and show them up for the attacks on civil rights they represent.
